About CN Investment Division (CNID)
Established in 1968, CNID manages the pension fund of Canadian National Railway (CNR.TO), a public company headquartered in Montreal.  The $18 billion pension fund is actively managed in-house and CNID employs approximately 80 people, including some 30 investment professionals.  Equity investments make up approximately 40% of the fund. These investments are broadly divided into five portfolios:  Canada, United States, Europe, Asia-Pacific and Emerging Markets. All portfolios have low turnover and are very concentrated.  CNID is a long-term shareholder.  We believe that buying and holding sound, growing businesses run by focused management will produce consistent, above-average returns. Emphasis is on companies with strong fundamentals, sustainable competitive advantages and good financial positions that will allow them to be successful for many years to come.  Our average holding period is three to five years, but there are several companies in which we have had investments for over 15 years.
